Open Monday through Saturday, the museum is a place to see the history of the local marine industry. It features a wide variety of ship models and paintings. These artifacts range from the 1600s to modern day. CIMM’s collections include works by Dutch masters, Flemish artists, 17th century painters, and contemporary maritime painters. In addition, it houses two of the largest collections of antique Napoleonic prisoner of war sailing ship models. Among the paintings on display are seascapes, trade war battle scenes, engravings, and works by English Romantic painters.
Formed in 1991, the Maritime Museum is a place where guests can learn about the history of the oceans and marine culture. Another great feature of the Maritime Museum is its extensive collection of intricate ship models. This collection is the largest on the West Coast and includes examples from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Some of the famous maritime artists who have worked at the museum include David Thimgan, John Stobart, and Christopher Blossom. Besides their paintings, the Maritime Museum’s exhibits include ship models, sculptures, and works by other contemporary maritime artists.
