Channel Islands Maritime Museum

The Channel Islands Maritime Museum (CIMM) is a beautiful place to visit, filled with maritime artwork and models. Aside from its great collection of maritime art, the museum also offers educational programs and guided tours. Located in Oxnard, California, the museum offers visitors an interesting and unique opportunity to see historical marine art and replica ships from around the world.

Open Monday through Saturday, the museum is a place to see the history of the local marine industry. It features a wide variety of ship models and paintings. These artifacts range from the 1600s to modern day. CIMM’s collections include works by Dutch masters, Flemish artists, 17th century painters, and contemporary maritime painters. In addition, it houses two of the largest collections of antique Napoleonic prisoner of war sailing ship models. Among the paintings on display are seascapes, trade war battle scenes, engravings, and works by English Romantic painters.

Formed in 1991, the Maritime Museum is a place where guests can learn about the history of the oceans and marine culture. Guests can explore the museum’s research library, attend a monthly speaker series, or participate in fun programs. CIMM also hosts an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions. CIMM’s Upper Deck is a space for educational programs and interactive exhibits. Third Thursday lectures are held on the Upper Deck.

Another great feature of the Maritime Museum is its extensive collection of intricate ship models. This collection is the largest on the West Coast and includes examples from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Some of the famous maritime artists who have worked at the museum include David Thimgan, John Stobart, and Christopher Blossom. Besides their paintings, the Maritime Museum’s exhibits include ship models, sculptures, and works by other contemporary maritime artists.

CIMM’s education department offers a variety of programs for both children and adults. The museum also hosts an exciting guest artist program, which features the work of well-known local artists. If you are interested in the Maritime Museum, you can subscribe to their email newsletters for event information and more. There is also a gift shop to buy books about maritime history and art. The museum is closed on Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

The Maritime Museum’s collection of paintings is divided into three galleries. One gallery showcases seascapes by the Dutch masters of the 17th century, another gallery features seascapes by French Impressionist painters, and the third features works by English Romantic painters. Other museum exhibits include reproductions of ships from various world histories, including whaling, navigation, and the lumber trade. Those who are interested in the maritime culture of the United States can attend special events and workshops.

CIMM’s Maritime Heritage Center is located right by the harbor and is a great place to learn more about the history of the local harbor. Visitors can also view museum models and other historic naval artifacts. The museum is open on Monday through Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m., and on Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m.
